Social
Skills/Anger Reduction Groups (SSARG)
All of us experience anger as a normal
emotion, but we deal with it in different ways. Some of these way
are acceptable and some are not. It is very important to understand
how you experience anger and how to control it. Those who study
anger have learned that there is a cycle that everyone goes through
when they are angry. Learning about the anger cycle, what makes
you angry, and how to cool down are valuable tools to know.
The Youth Aid Panels in York County,
Juvenile Probation, and Family-Child Resources are working together
to give young people a chance to learn about anger and make the
changes that will lead to better anger control.
SSARG assists youths who are first-time offenders to develop the
skills necessary to control their anger. Participants attend 10
weekly group sessions, which focus on learning the anger cycle,
identifying the stages of anger, and practicing the techniques of
appropriate anger management.
The SSARG curriculum is
activity-based to allow participants to:
- practice the skills necessary to
avoid problem situations.
- reduce their emotional and behavioral
responses to anger.
- resolve conflict in a socially appropriate
manner.
Referrals for this program
are generated from local Youth Aid Panels or the Juvenile Probation
Office.
